Skin
Care Collection by Green Valley Spa

"Good
Medicine" is a term used by the Indian Nations to describe
anything that uplifts the spirit and brings pleasure and wholesome
nourishment to body and mind; We are indebted to our native
predecessors for their understanding of the rich and beneficial
plant life that graces our desert home. We have called upon their
special knowledge in creating the desert tincture we use as the
basis for our products. For the inherent qualities it conveys, we
call it . . .
"Good
Medicine."
Our
Own Desert Tincture
Ephedra
(Mormon
Tea)
was introduced to the early Mormon settlers by their Indian friends.
This
prolific desert plant served as a stimulant to refresh weary
muscles, brighten heavy hearts and lighten the step. It was used to
reduce swollen, puffy areas beneath the skin and release excess
fluids.
Juniper Berries were strung as beads and worn
around the neck by native cultures as a shield against opposing
forces — a good luck charm! Actually, these berries have known
germicidal
properties and have been used in various forms 'since
ancient times to prevent and treat disease.
Sage
is famous in desert lore for its use in native purification
ceremonies to clear a toxic mind and heart. When dried, burned and
inhaled as smoke, it is believed to drive away unpleasant thoughts
and shameful feelings. Sage was used externally to clarify sallow,
dull, or discolored skin and bring back the rosy glow of youth.
Creosote has been known for centuries as nature's drug store
and used by native peoples to ease the pain of congestion and combat
disease. Contains purifying agents that reduce toxic chemical
waste while guarding the skin against the sun's harmful rays.
Aloe
Vera
acts as the detoxifying agent to soften, brighten and clarify the
skin. It is also known to have healing properties. Rich in vitamin C.
Alphalpha
and Dandelion stimulate the cells' natural resource center to create
their own essential nutrients.
Honey is used as a moisturizing agent that cleanses and
softens the skin's surface.
Rain Water is captured as it falls through
the clear desert air before it touches the soil. Rich in essential
minerals not available in any other form.
In addition to the tincture, we also use . . .
Yucca
Root was used by the desert Indians for shimmering healthy hair and
has a lively sudsing action that leaves no dull, soapy film
nor depletes the previous moisture within. Leaves the skin pliant
and supple. Combined with crystalline particles of sand fallen
from towering red cliffs high above the desert floor, it polishes
the skin to a smooth, lustrous shine.
Potato is reduced to a soft ash-like powder and used in
our cleansing compound. Ashes are symbolic of life reduced to its
simplest form — purity — and as such are part of the sacred ways
of the Indian cultures. In fact, soaps were first created when ashes
were combined with oil. Rich in vital ketone elements, potato
cleanses, detoxifies, improves circulation, activates sensory
components, and strengthens skin tone.
Our Products
In the desert, softly
falling rain always feels like "Good Medicine." So we
collect the tiny droplets as they fall toward the ground, holding
clear desert air in their pockets, and bottle them with sunlight,
breeze, dew, and sand especially for our friends who are not here
when the desert blooms. May these little "gifts from the
earth" bring your skin to blossom like a rose.
