Terra Cotta : Eliminating The Earthy Taste In The Water

New terra cotta may initially impart a slight "Earthy Taste"

into the water which can be eliminated by the following methods:

  1. Fill the upper reservoir with water and let filter normally.

  2. Empty lower reservoir, and repeat Steps 1, 2 & 3 until earthy taste is eliminated.

  3. If larger container (e.g. bathtub, or kitchen sink) is available, submerge lower unit entirely (without filter) into hot water and let stand overnight. This will greatly shorten the "priming" process.

  4. For stubborn problems or for those with extreme sensitivities:  Cut one lemon in half and place it in the container in which you are using to soak the terra cotta vessel. This will eliminate the  "Earthy Taste" in it's entirety.

Terra Cotta : Outside surface of the dispenser is white

What does this mean?

1.   If the outside of the terra cotta unit appears dirty or the surface

turns white from harmless air-borne molds on the moist surface

of the terra cotta surface, this is NOT mold or mildew.

Mildew or mold will NOT grow on the purifier Terra Cotta Vessel

if it is maintained properly. The Vessel is always slightly cool

and damp. Minerals in the water (especially calcium) can be

precipitated on the outside surface of the Dispenser Vessel

      during the evaporative process.

The water remains cool inside the unit because of the

evaporation of water through the walls of the Terra Cotta.

These salts can build up and form a good host for dust and

dirt in the atmosphere. The Terra Cotta water dispenser

container should be treated as a normal household appliance

and wiped down every couple of days with a damp cloth. This

prevents mineral salts from building up.

If the outside of the terra cotta unit appears dirty or the surface

turns white from harmless air-borne molds on the moist surface

of the terra cotta surface, clean outer surface with a wet cloth

      ONLY

2.  Always leave the terra cotta unit in an open area which is well

      ventilated.
